Pushpin Show opens as a blank, empty space and evolves as artists hang their original creations by everyday pushpins. The resulting work-in-progress exhibition transforms in of itself into an original work of art. Three well-known members of the arts community will judge and award first-through-third place prizes to work by artists ages 21 to 45, but artists of any age can participate.The purpose of the Pushpin Show is to provide an opportunity for students and other artists who may not be represented in galleries to exhibit their work.
The focus on ordinary pushpins also encourages artists and viewers to question established notions of viewing art in a contemporary exhibition space, as well as what it means to exhibit work in a “professional” setting. Because of its unique ability to attract emerging artists, the show has become a popular venue for Santa Fe gallery representatives to “discover” new talent.
