push·pin show (n.):
1. A show with the objective of having artists think creatively within the constraints of pushpin-hung art.
2. An exhibit intended to appeal to young Santa Fe artists who are often overlooked by commercial galleries.
3. An event in which all artists can participate
Avant Garde is currently seeking young artists to participate in our fourth annual, breakthrough, freeform art show, opening April 18, 2008 and continuing at the Museum through April 26, 2008. The objective is for artists to participate actively in a spontaneous gallery show, and to discourage preconceived notions that art must be framed and matted in a "professional" setting.
Show Requirements
Two-dimensional works — including paintings, prints, drawings, photography, and two-dimensional hanging sculptures — are eligible. Pushpins must be used to hang 2-D works. In other words, one or more pushpins must serve as a device to present the work (usually used to hang the work itself). Work cannot exceed 36 inches (90cm) in any direction. No matted or framed works will be accepted.
Artists will hang their own work during the exhibit opening, allowing viewers to watch blank walls be transformed into a colorful montage of pushpin art. A panel of judges from the Santa Fe art community will award prizes to three artists ages 21-45. Artists of any age may show work.
Artists can submit up to three works, and there is no entry fee. A $3.00 donation is suggested.
Artists will hang their work on a first-come first-served basis, as space is limited.
